Misspelled your Facebook Page name or changed your company name? You can change your Facebook Page name in just a few easy steps instead of starting over.

I just changed my business name from Your Marketing Gal to Kick A Marketing Group.  I thought about starting a new Facebook Page, but decided to keep my current page which I had named Jo Guerrra – Your Marketing Gal as I have close to 1500 fans. Maybe not a lot compared to major brands, but a lot for my small business.

If you’re in the same boat as I was and have some fans you’ve worked hard to get to like your page, you can ask Facebook to change the name of your page, but NOT the URL – not at least at this time.

Here are the steps:

Go to your page, on the top right click on “Help” and then “Request a name change for your Page”.

request a name change for your page

On the next screen, you’ll see two boxes, one with your “Current Page name” and one with your “Desired Page name”. Just type in the name of your new Facebook Page. Then click on the drop down for “Why do you want to change your Page name.

You’ll have three options:

  1. My business name has changed
  2. My Page name is misspelled
  3. Other

Not sure what comes up if you hit other. But if you’ve misspelled your page name or have changed your company name, here’s your chance to ask Facebook to change the name of your company.  Hit “Send”. Facebook will confirm that your request is on it’s way. Now you just have to wait until they give you permission.

I am not able to change my URL from www.facebook.com/yourmarketinggal. However, I can use a reliable URL shortener. I chose a bit.ly shortener, on.fb.me/kickafb as it has fb a couple of times,  but you can also use a Google shortener. Before you had to have less than 100 fans in order to change your name and this information is still listed on Facebook’s help section. I’ll update you when Facebook gives me permission.

In the meantime, let’s connect on Faceboook.

UPDATE: Facebook changed the name in just a few days. Here’s a screen shot of my new page name. Because I was not able to change the URL, I used the Pretty Link plugin in WordPress to mask the name and it is http://kickamarketing.com/faceb. But I still may change it to FB instead.

  1. Hi Jo,

I just read about you changing the name of you Facebook page.

I have requested to change the name of my business page on FB because there is another “The Berry Basket” in
Another state and town and people are mixing us up.

They have approved it, I got an email, but they said it would take 14 days to notify all of my “LIKES”,
I hope I can keep my “LIKES” and I’ve tried to contact them with no luck.

Thought maybe you will know…..WILL I KEEP MY LIKES when the name changes. I have 933 and don’t want to loose them.

    Hope to hear from you.

    Thanks,

    • Hi Renee,

Hmm, I’ve never heard of that. So, you did not merge your page with another one? I did not lose any of my likes when I changed the name or URL.

  2. Hi Jo,

How did you change your name when you had over 200 likes on the page?

I am looking to change the name of a page I manage as the company is undergoing a re-brand in May with a new name being developed but the only thing I can find on Facebook says you can only change if you have less than 200 likes!

    • Hi Heather,

I had to send Facebook a request and let them know that I had changed the name as I had over 200 likes. I believe you can do it only once. And then I was actually able to change the URL as well. It is now wwww.facebook.com/kickamarketing. Good luck.
